Alex Pain's recent artworks explore themes around the reverence of objects, craftsmanship and associations of beauty. Latest artwork 'The Brandishing Sticks' is a study on ergonomic design and the primal feeling of power that is experienced when we hold something we can use to effect our surroundings. They are in a way an extension of the limb and are of that scale sometimes taking bodily curves of their own. Pain learns new skills during the making process and creates these strange objects with ornate materials that leave behind an echo of useful design.
